The biggest air show in the Mediterranean and one of the largest in Europe is celebrating its 20th anniversary. This last 2 October Barcelona’s beaches have hosted a new edition of ‘Festa al Cel’ (the sky festival), the air show organised by Barcelona City Council, despite the reduction to a single day, has been assisted over 420,000 people. This year’s show has also commemorateed the one hundredth anniversary of the first flight piloted by a woman in Barcelona, through the participation of the current World Aerobatic Champion, Svetlana Kapanina.
Besides the display of aerobatics, flight precision and air safety, ‘Festa al Cel’ aims to give Barcelona’s residents an insight into the world of aeronautics and raise awareness of the potential of one of the city’s strategic sectors. In this vein, a number of organisations, companies and universities havel once again set up shop on the Moll de Marina to promote the sector and the career opportunities it offers.
