Catalan exports continue to rise with an increase of 14% in July


According to the latest figures from the Secretary of State for Trade, exports grew by 13.96% in July this year, leading to 19 consecutive months on the rise. Sales outside Catalonia add up to 5,077.11 million euros, representing 27.24% of the total for Spain. The Community of Madrid (11.29%) and Andalusia (10.53%) occupy second and third place.
The study states that from January to July 2011 exports increased by 16.42% over the same period last year. They account for 25.77% of total exports from Spain in the first seven months of the year, contributing 4.28% to the growth of the entire state (17.76%).
Sales in the euro area, which is the destination of 53.41% of total exports, grew by 10.40% in July. However, Catalan exports rose in areas outside the EU – an increase of 18.16%.
In Latin America they grew by 14.39% in total, which includes the 40.53% increase in exports to Brazil. In Asia the 9.73% increase in exports was to countries like the UAE (76.39%) and South Korea (64.58%).
By sector of activity, energy products, other goods and the automobile sector are those that experienced higher growth, with increases in July of 142.86%, 76.42% and 39.20%, respectively. Chemical products continues to be the leading sector for Catalan exports, with 25.57% of the total sales abroad.
